West Hills is an LA City neighborhood in the far western San Fernando Valley, created in 1987 when the western third of Canoga Park split off to form its own community.

West Hills is one of the newer named neighborhoods in the San Fernando Valley, having only existed as a distinct community since the 1987 split from Canoga Park.
The area was originally part of Owensmouth (founded 1912), renamed Canoga Park in 1931. In 1987, residents of the western, more newly-developed third of Canoga Park — led by resident Joel Schiffman — petitioned the City of Los Angeles to split off as an independent neighborhood, officially creating West Hills.
West Hills skews newer-construction and higher-income than the rest of the western Valley, which shows up in a higher share of post-1995, Costa-Hawkins-exempt multifamily inventory. Sterman works it through comparable sales with Woodland Hills and Canoga Park.
