Balboa Lake itself is an entirely artificial, 27-acre lake supplied by reclaimed water — the neighborhood's defining feature is a piece of engineered infrastructure, not a natural landmark.
The neighborhood takes its name from the 27-acre artificial Balboa Lake, filled with reclaimed water from the adjacent Tillman Water Reclamation Plant. The surrounding park was renamed Anthony C. Beilenson Park in 1998 to honor the longtime congressman for his community and conservation work; the community informally adopted the Lake Balboa name as it grew out of what was previously considered part of Van Nuys.
Lake Balboa's multifamily stock and buyer pool track the central Valley closely, pricing alongside Van Nuys and Sherman Oaks. The park frontage is a real, if modest, amenity premium for buildings within walking distance of it.
